Crossword Genius

In circulation in a big way (2,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

at large

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'in circulation in' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are adjectives. Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'a big way' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'a' is found in the answer.
'big' could be 'large' (synonyms) and 'large' is located in the answer.
A single letter 't' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for at large that I've seen before include "Free, not in captivity" , "On the loose, at liberty" , "At liberty, escaped" , "Free like escaped convict" , "Free, not in custody" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
