Crossword Genius

Letter providing you with accommodation (8)

Ross

I think it could be either:

landlord

landlady
I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'letter' is the definition.
(I know that landlord is a type of letter)

'you with accommodation' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'with' could be 'and' and 'and' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'providing' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for landlord that I've seen before include "He lets out building for rent" , "Property letter" , "One renting out property" , "ones under the table he might throw out" , "He sets and collects the rent" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph and The Globe and Mail.
