Crossword Genius

Like most plants, not upright! (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

aslant

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'not upright' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'like most plants' is the wordplay.
'like' becomes 'as'.
'most plants' becomes 'lant' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'as'+'lant'='ASLANT'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for aslant that I've seen before include "sloping away?" , "Obliquely" , "oblique view" , "Not true" , "on a slope" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
