Crossword Genius

New novel out about international development (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

evolution

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'development' is the definition.
(I know that development can be written as evolution)

'new novel out about international' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'new' could be 'n' (common abbreviation eg NT for New Testament) and 'n' is found in the answer.
'international' could be 'i' (abbreviation eg in IMF) and 'i' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'out' is 'uto' which is located in the left over letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for evolution that I've seen before include "Darwin's theory" , "Gradual change" , "it's a gradual process" , "Development - progress" , "Slow change" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
