I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'outwardly snarky' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I cannot tell whether this works.

'new essay about revolutionary music producer' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'new' could be 'n' (common abbreviation eg NT for New Testament) and 'n' is located in the answer.
'essay' could be 'thesis' (I've seen this before) and 'thesis' is located in the answer.
'music' could be 'e' and 'e' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'syr' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for synthesiser that I've seen is " Electronic keyboard instrument".)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
