Ross

I believe the answer is:

resign

'quit' is the definition.
(I know that quit is a kind of quit)

'write one's name again?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'write' could be 'sign' (signing is a kind of writing) and 'sign' is present in the answer.
'again?' could be 're' (prefix meaning 'again') and 're' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'and' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for resign that I've seen before include "Hand in one's notice" , "advice for the incompetent?" , "Either leave" , "Quit" , "surrender" .)
