I believe the answer is:

'money from the us' is the definition.
'greenback' can be an answer for 'money' (I've seen this in another clue). I am not certain of the 'from the us' bit.
'raw defender gets some' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'raw' could be 'green' (synonyms) and 'green' is found in the answer.
'defender' could be 'back' (left-backs and right-backs are football defenders) and 'back' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
