Crossword Genius

She plays a Shakespearean part for the network (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cobweb

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the network' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'she plays a shakespearean part' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'part' could be 'web' (web is a kind of part) and 'web' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'cob' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'for' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cobweb that I've seen before include "Insect-catching network" , "Spun threads" , "Dusty silken network" , "Gossamer trap" , "One appearing in A Midsummer Night's Dream" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
