Crossword Genius

California -- the flipping fat bishop might be found here (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cathedral

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'bishop might be found here' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how they can define each other.

'california the flipping fat' is the wordplay.
'california' becomes 'ca' (abbreviation).
'flipping' says the letters should be written backwards.
'fat' becomes 'lard' (lard is a kind of fat).
'lard' in reverse letter order is 'dral'.
'ca'+'the'+'dral'='CATHEDRAL'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cathedral that I've seen before include "Main church of diocese" , "Had claret (anag.)" , "Where you'll find bishop" , "One would be in the city" , "dramatic murder location" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
