Crossword Genius

They draw from banks (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tiers

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'banks' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'they draw' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'draw' could be 'tie' (synonyms) and 'tie' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'from' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tiers that I've seen before include "Row upon row" , "aprons for kids" , "Layers or thicknesses" , "Layers of rites" , "More than one bank" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
